sweetwater river…
Sunshine and I went on an ~8 mile hike around the Sweetwater River Valley. It was beautiful and invigorating and validating in all the ways we’ve already come to expect of a good long hike.
1.5 miles in, we stopped at this wonderful little diversion dam. The trail eventually looped back and brought us past this again, so we sat on the wall on the right with our legs dangling over the edge, eating our PB&J sandwiches and reveling in the sunlight and crash of the water:
Further up the trail, we encountered this victim of the most recent San Diego wildfires:
This is another burn victim–a huge oak straddling a portion of the river. Of course, I had to go mount my throne (obviously, Sunshine took this pic):
Sunshine took this awesome picture of the grasses that attempted to obscure the “Marked/Obvious Trail” (hooray for shooting in portrait, cuteness!):
Speaking of Sunshine…
And here’s me again, looking pretty smug and satisfied with myself:
And here’s a little memorial to our trip: we had to ford the river twice along the trail we’d chosen. Sunshine’s boots are waterproof–mine are not. Here, Sunshine clearly was hoping to get a shot of me falling in. No joy.
A great hike and great company. Can’t ask for a better day!
